Microsoft has released to a few testers Windows Vista SP1. So far it seems a tab bit faster than Vista 0. BUt that's probably due to a clean install.
So if you want we'll get it uploaded to the file server and you can try that out to see if that'll peak your interest in it.

Thoughts on SP1
Well I've tried it for all my machines. Yes (you were playing on a Vista SP1 PC) last LAN.
SP1 is a very big improvement over what Vista started out as. File transfers are much, MUCH faster. Response times such as clicking the start button is better. There aren't any new features announced yet, but still just overall core improvements. Not to mention DirectX 10.1 is coming soon if not already here. So yes Vista will be worth getting...probably Feb once SP1 is released. It will also be released along side Windows XP SP3. (Haven't tested it, don't ask me about it...but i can tell how to get it...vista's too)
See... look at the signs
"XP SP3"
Until a few months ago, you could not buy a new PC with a Windows OS that was NOT Vista.
Now you can....
Signs, signs, everywhere signs.
I would agree... for gaming
I would agree... for gaming go with XP sp3... Vista is nice for what I would call basic home users that browse the web, email, pics, media etc... Other then Directx10 (Which I'm sure eventually they will have a download for XP or hack.. If they don't already)..Oh and also I do prefer the mouse feel over XP..
The best idea for M$ is to make a "Vista Gamer's Edition" or something like that.. THat is used purely for performance and improves XP flaws (MOUSE ACCEL ANYONE?)... I guess you could always do Winlite if the vista version of Winlite has came far enough to do all the wonderful things it can to XP..
