As of now, we are not planning on having a NOV LAN. OK, so some peeps seem to want to have the LAN next month. Here is the deal. In order to have the LAN in November, certain things have to be known.
1. What date? 24th is the norm date. Earlier better?
2. How many people want to come.
3. Will heaters be needed, and how many/wattage if so?
Here is my professional opinion:
We could definitely say "LAN on Nov X" and host it. But how many people would be willing to haul their stuff out there and take the risk of being cold/uncomfortable?
At this point, it turns into a effort/gain equation. Will there be enough people willing to game to justify dealing with the consequences that come with the situation.
We can definitely get electric heaters, and I can inquire into getting an industrial heater (like the ones being used up stairs) for the LAN with a high chance of success.
Either of the two above mentioned options takes a toll on power - which is not currently adequate to support the space we have. Meaning, we would have to have a limit on the amount of people we could support.
September LAN we were on the cusp of that limit, this past Oct LAN, not so much. Who knows how Nov might turn out.
So there you have it. That is the background info needed to support a LAN in November. Give us your thoughts...

I would love to lan in Nov. I'd be willing to help out with some heaters if need be. I think as long as everybody comes to teh lan with the mindset that it may be a little chilly, things should go smoothly. If the lan happens, everybody who wants to go should bring blankets and warm clothing just in case. You may be on to something with the earlier/better deal..........its likely that we'll have somewhat warmer weather in earlier november than later (although the first week IS calling for snowfall...). So i'm in for a november lan...

I missed last months LAN so i am down...the LAn usually are air conditioned all to hell and its cold anyway...given its a basement, baserments usually stay about 60 degrees without heat...ADD 25 PCs and it should heat up quick..I say do it and wear a sweatshirt....I have been colder at some of the July LANs then the ones in the winter due to the extreme AC in the old room....if you hold it they will come.

So, what works for everyone? 17th or the 24th?
Most people plan for the 24th with their work schedules and the like. Some can never make it the 4th weekend (24th this month).
So taking the holiday into consideration, whats the best time?

I'm definitely down for the LAN, even if it is cold. i have warm clothes and a blanket. as for a date, i also agree that earlier may be better, as it would help with the fact that it would be before the holiday weekend.
Well...
Since everyone else is down for it, I guess I will be. I was kinda hoping not to have one for Nov, because it would give me PLENTY of time to set up an awesome COD4 server.
I feel bad though i'm going to be shutting down the COD2 server. It has served me...as well as the LAN a great service (not bad for a Athlon XP 2800+ PC). But I know COD4 alone without mods will be bad ass...so
I vote for Nov 24. I'll have a server set up as best as I can, but assuming we all buy COD4 before the LAN I need as many people as possible to help me test it out. MOre Details once I get it.
