Well I tried WHS (Windows Home Server) and I like it so much after using it just 1 week I bought it. I will have my server up to 5 TB (depending how I alowcate it) before Christmas. I backed up my gamer c drive and then loaded WIN 7 PRO on it.
Forgot that CODwaw stored the stats on the c drive. No problem. I just froze the old save so it won't delete and then opened it and found the folder i needed and that sold me on it.
I used the weaker of the 2 gamer spares and picked up 2 external 1TB drives from staples on Black Friday. Than on cyber Monday i picked up 2 internal 1.5 TB drives from Dell. Make for a nice little cache of space for the server.
I will keep posting here as to what I encounter over the weeks.

More on the WHS
Ok so I got the retail copy in and backup all my data just in case something went wrong, which it did. It was not WHS at fault.
In preparation for loading WHS retail and changing the set up I removed the 2 external drives or should say i tried. One drive would error out and not uninstall. I ended up disconnecting the USB cable while WHS was running. It sensed it lost connection and let me uninstall it then. I lost my computer backups then but that did not matter. I backed up the old XP load and the Win 7 were no biggie.
So I installed the SATA/150 card and the 2 - 1.5 TB drives, This is when funny things started to happened. First off the HD light never went off. I could do some things then i would get a very long pause or a lock up. I had also put a 7 port SB hub on it, so i was hoping that was the problem. Removed that but still having the problems.
It got late so I gave up for the night.
Windows Home Server
OK it has been awhile but i did this the next day. Removing all that stuff did not help. I look at the WHS connector on my home computer and it wanted to do a repair for the missing drive. I let it and that was the problem all along. As soon as that was done WHS loaded the driver for the card but i went ahead and installed the driver off the net.
Everything is up and running.
